Bugs

This is technically about Halloween but it’s definitely creepy enough to go in that bin. Makes me wish I lived in Iceland.

A Haunting I Will Go…

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

I’m really enjoying this Halloween so far. I don’t have a costume yet but I’m enjoying it all the same. I put up the little graveyard in the front and have had a corpse hanging from the tree all month. I also built a 15 foot spider web for the front that, when complete, should glow in the dark. I’m pretty sure that the 60W black light I have, coupled with the glow in the dark paint should keep it glowing without any apparently illumination but we’ll see how it works out.

The frustrating part is that I’m coming up with some really cool ideas but there just isn’t going to be time to implement them. I’ll have to settle for the spider web this year and work on the others over the course of the year for next Halloween. Another limiting factor is that I’m trying not to scare Emily, some of the ideas that I’m having are great but, honestly, are just too damned creepy for a four year old to be around. I was listening to the spooky sound effects at the Halloween Express and came up with a number of ways to improve on them a’la Doom III that would probably get me shunned by my neighbors.

That reminds me, I need to reinstall Doom III for a little gaming/mood/inspiration

Autumn

Thursday, October 5th, 2006

The leaves are turning and there is a rotting corpse hanging from the tree out in front of my house. I’m pretty excited about decorating for Halloween this year and as Emily gets older I can start doing a few more extreme things without scaring her. I still need to run things past her though to see if I get the “that makes me a little scared” but a couple more years and I can really pull out the stops. This year I think I’m just going to stick to a simple graveyard in the front and maybe a giant spider web lit with black light.
